Ultrasound System Considerations and their Impact on Front- End Components
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction Medical ultrasound machines are some of the most sophisticated signal processing machines in use today. As in any machine there are many trade-offs in implementations due to performance requirements, physics, and cost. This paper will try to show the trade-offs for ultrasound front-end circuits by starting from a high-level system overview followed by a more detailed description of how ultrasound systems work. Some system level understanding is necessary to fully appreciate the desired front-end integrated circuit (IC) functions and performance, especially for: the Low Noise Amplifier (LNA); Time Gain Control (TGC); and A/D Converters (ADC). “Front-end” is defined in this paper as all circuitry including the beamformers, even though the primary focus is on the analog signal processing components up to and including the ADCs.

Assessment and Design Enhancement of the Front End Energy Absorption Mechanism of a Locomotive Based on an Impact Scenario
This research is concerned with weighing the behavior of the front end energy absorption system of a locally manufactured locomotive in crash situations. The causes of the extensive damages to the energy absorption apparatus that includes the crash element and the buffer are studied. By choosing the proper damage model the conditions of the accident is simulated by using the ABAQUS engineering ...
متن کاملHow Ultrasound System Considerations Influence Front-End Component Choice
It is essential for designers to understand the specifications that are of particular importance, their effect on system performance, and how they are affected by integrated-circuit (IC) design trade-offs—in terms of integration and semiconductor process technology—that will limit user design choices. Awareness of these considerations will help the designer to achieve the most advantageous syst...
متن کاملSignal Processing Overview of Ultrasound Systems for Medical Imaging-White Paper
This white paper provides a description of ultrasound imaging systems with focus on the signal processing strategies. The different system components are briefly discussed followed by a description of ultrasound related peculiarities that the system needs to handle. The system processing for B-mode imaging can be roughly divided into three components: the front end (that includes transmission, ...
متن کاملCondition Based Maintenance for Two-Component Systems with Reliability and Cost Considerations
This paper studies a maintenance policy for a system composed of two components, which are subject to continuous deterioration and consequently stochastic failure. The failure of each component results in the failure of the system. The components are inspected periodically and their deterioration degrees are monitored. The components can be maintained using different maintenance actions (repair...
متن کاملEnergy scalable systems for 2D and 3D low-power ultrasound beamforming
In traditional ultrasound imaging systems, bulky and power-intensive mainframes are used to process the high number of waveforms acquired in parallel from a large transducer array. The computational power of these systems scales linearly with transducer count. However, there exist applications where basic functionality in lowpower conditions may be favorable to an "all-or-nothing" system that o...
